Since 1975, Moosonee Transportation Limited has been a force in transporting various cargo to the the coastal communities of James Bay and Hudson Bay.
MTL is committed to preserving the livability of the people in this region. We are accustomed to dealing with the special conditions encountered to northern transportation. Not only are we accustomed to the tough northerly environment, our infrastructure in Moosonee makes our operation completely self sufficient.
We have full warehousing facilities in Moosonee, Wemindji, Quebec, Chisasibi, Quebec, for marshaling cargo as it arrives from the road, or by rail for furtherance north — we winter some of our marine equipment in Wemindji, Quebec to allow for early startup.
From its base in Moosonee, MTL services the First Nation coastal communities of Fort Albany, Kashechewan, Attawapiskat, Peawanuck (Winisk), and Fort Severn located on the west coast of James Bay and Hudson Bay. And on the east coast of James bay and Hudson Bay, we service the First Nation communities of Waskaganish, Wemindji, Chisasibi, Great Whale River, Uimijuag, Sanikiluag, and Povungnituk.
Freight is transported to all of the ports in James Bay and Hudson Bay as much as four times per year. Most of these ports are sailed to from our base in Moosonee; in the last few years we have been doing many trips from Wemindji, Quebec and they have been increasing annually. There are other ports located in the Hudson Straits, or the northerly part of Hudson Bay. Trips are made to these ports as volume or demand dictates.
